Book of the Month: The Crimson Thread by Suzanne Weyn | September 2012

*SPOILERS*

INTRO
Hi, guys. I know that I didn't make it very clear what the Book of the Month was this month, cuz I sorta forgot.. But I decided to do the discussion/review anyway because you guys deserve it anyway!

PLOT
Bridget, or Bertie, and her family have just emigrated to New York and they are trying to find jobs so that they can pay for the five children and keep the apartment and all that. But they are finding that hard until Paddy, or Rick, who is her father, gets a job with horses with a very famous and successful businessman, J.P. Wellington. When Bridget gets fired from her job, Paddy gets her a job as a seamstress in the Wellington estate. But she only got the job because Paddy had told them that she was the best seamstress in Wales, where they are pretending to be from, which she is not.
When she is asked to create a dress for his daughters her father gladly excepts the challenge even though she cannot do it. Then, Ray Stalls, who is mysterious love interest helps her and saves the day. Then because of the dresses, James Wellington, J.P.'s son proposes and she agrees to and then things go bad because James is always drunk and out with other girls, and gets her fired and then she goes back to New York and she finds Ray and they get married.
The End.

The plot was actually very intense everyone was always stressed and figuring out who was going to mind Eileen and Liam (age three and eleven) but the romance could get very cheesy. James seemed very perfect at the start and I thought it was going to be where he is the perfect man but she is confused whether to pick him or Ray which it kind of was, he seemed perfect but she really thought that she did not love Ray even though there was a slight spark. And then in the end James turned out to be the bad one which I saw coming kind of in the middle of it all so it was a bit predictable.

It was a very quick read which I found good because I probably would have hated it if it had taken me too long because it's the kind of book that you like when you read it, but you would probably never read again.
Suzanne Weyn

It translated from the original Rumpelstiltskin very well. It was almost exact except it had it's own little twists and turns in places and was overall very Rumpelstiltskin-ish.

CHARACTERS
The characters in this book, as I said, were very predictable. I didn't really like Tessa. She never really analyzed anything or thought about anything twice she just saw what she saw and that was that. The minute she laid eyes on James she fell in love with him and that was just annoying. And another thing that annoying about her was the fact that she had this weird state of mind that she was a princess. It was really random and didn't lead anywhere at all. She had an Italian friend Maria who was very quickly made as well. There was no character development whatsoever and was just annoying overall.
There were two real characters in this and that was James and Eileen. Paddy was just so irresponsible and left everything to Bridget to sort out and then there was the eldest son Finn, who was just too responsible to 21, I think. So, Eileen was my favourite because she was the only one who portrayed her characteristic well.

OVERALL
I would give it a rating of 8/10 because it doesn't quite deserve a nine but it wasn't quite a seven either. It was kind of addictive in a way and I enjoyed myself.
Recommendation: Add it to the TBRs...

I don't plan to make them all this short and I'm sorry if it's not very, um, useful! See you next time!

September TBR! ;D

Hey guys! Welcome to books on NerdieWorld!!! God, I'm so excited!

How it works!
So each month I will choose a number of books to go with the selected theme. One of these books will be the Book of the Month; the book that I will most definitely be reading and ask of you to do the same. With this, instead of a review of that book, there will be a discussion so that we can all share our opinions of the book! Exciting!
My rating system will be fairly simple; for each book will rate it out of ten, approve or disapprove and give it a recommendation of: Awesome! Read it Now!, Add it to the TBRs..., Don't waste your money, No, Just No.
Even though I have the books to go with the themes, I will also have side-reads which are the books I will read if I don't feel like any from the TBR!
Each month will have a wrap up and a TBR XD

Let's continue!
The theme for this month is: Fairy Tales! Yay!

1. The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell by Chris Colfer
I was so excited, I already started it!
I have never watched Glee. I have never been interested in Glee. I barely know what Glee is and only know Chris Colfer is in it because of Joey Graceffa, Whitney Milam and Raeleen. And that is partly why I'm interested. I want to know if this is a good book, or it's only praised because Chris Colfer is the author. And the other part of my interest is because I love the idea and really like the sound of it.

2. Grimm's Fairy Tales by J.L.C. Grimm and W.C. Grimm (Translated by Lucy Crane)
I love fairy tales and have since I discovered Disney Princesses. That pretty much sums it up!

3. The Selection by Kiera Cass
Princesses? I think this book counts! I love the idea of a fairy tale in the future! That will be awesome and I'm really looking forward to this book!
Book of the month

4. The Crimson Thread by Suzanne Weyn
The Crimson Thread is a retelling of Rumpelstiltskin and it looks really good! I'm really looking forward to it!

5. The Princess Bride by William Goldman
Oh, man! This book! I'm finally reading it! I cannot wait to get my hands on that book! I'm shivering just thinking about it!

6. Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carrol
I loved the movie starring Mia Wasikowska (one of my favourite actresses) and directed by Tim Burton (my favourite director) and can't wait to read the real thing!

My side reads for this month are Clockwork Prince and City of Bones by Cassandra Clare, and Pretties by Scott Westerfeld!

Thanks for reading and I'll see you soon! xx Bye!
